My Humbling Truth: I Had Built My Entire Business on Sand
☠️The day my spiritual ego died ☠️
Now what?
I know nothing.
I am a fraud.
Have you ever read something that shook you so deeply that it made you question everything you thought you knew and believed to be true? That was my reality on August 14th, 2026, at the Oregon Coast.
I was reading A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle when I started crying. Something opened up in me, and I suddenly realized that much of what I thought I knew about consciousness was not what I thought it was. I said out loud, "I know nothing."
For the past five years, I have dedicated myself to my spiritual practice. I have read, meditated, journaled, studied, practiced, and worked hard to understand consciousness, mindset, transformation, and personal growth. I had built my business around what I believed I knew.
Then, in what felt like 30 seconds, it all came crumbling down.
It felt like a sandcastle being flattened by the powerful and unforgiving ocean.
The humbling truth was that I had built a pretty impressive spiritual ego.
That is a strange thing to admit when your entire business is built around helping people evolve.
I had become attached to being the person who knew. I was the person who understood consciousness and personal growth. I was the person who had figured things out and could help other people figure them out too.
I was judging and comparing. I was constantly futurizing, which is my word for going into the future, and pasturizing, which is my word for going into the past. I had climbed onto my own spiritual hill and was looking down at the world from a place of believing that I knew better.
That isn't spirituality. That is ego wearing spiritual clothing.
When I finally saw it, I could not pretend that I hadn't. The tears came, and there were a lot of them. I was mourning the version of myself who thought she knew. I was mourning the certainty, the identity, and the façade I had built around who I believed I was.
It felt like the death of an old version of me.
I went from feeling like a spiritual know-it-all to feeling like an empty vessel that could only repeat, "I know nothing."
And strangely, there was freedom in that.
Earlier that morning, while drinking my ceremonial cacao, I had set an intention. I asked, "Please show me what I am ready to release today. Show me what is ready to let go. Help me stay present- pay attention to my ego."
The Universe and my spirit team certainly delivered.
So, now what?
I do not think I am supposed to rush to fill the space that has been created. Instead, I am learning to mourn what was without judging it, give thanks for the awareness, and stay present rather than immediately trying to figure out what comes next.
I am learning to observe my ego when it inevitably fights back and tells me, "Do not believe that. You are right. You do know."
I am learning to rebuild my house on a solid foundation of truth rather than certainty. I am learning to patiently allow the knowing to find me instead of chasing it. I am learning to accept that life is one beautiful mystery and that I do not have to understand everything in order to experience it.
Most importantly, I am learning to surrender, trust, and have faith. To be patient and stay present.
Then came the question I really had to grapple with.
Can I still teach? Am I even qualified to help other people?
The answer I have come to is yes.
But I can no longer teach from the place of believing that I have figured everything out and that I am here to show everyone else the way. I can teach from curiosity. I can teach from humility. I can teach from the perspective of a student who is still learning and growing.
I can approach this work with the spirit of a child who is willing to say, "I do not know. Let's discover it together."
Anything else would simply be inviting my ego back to the party.
Where might your ego be running the show?
Where in your life do you feel like you have it all figured out? Where do you need to be right? Where do you need to be heard? Where are you judging someone because you have decided that you know better?
Sometimes simply becoming aware of these things is enough to begin shining a light on the ego. It does not particularly like being seen, and it may even get louder before it gets quieter.
When I notice mine, I have started thanking it for trying to protect me and then lovingly inviting it to go sit on the beach with a drink while I take it from here.
I do not need to destroy my ego. I simply do not need to let it drive.
And then came The Fool.
The next morning, on the rental home bedroom floor, which was the very place where I had spent the night before mourning my spiritual ego, I found a small gold piece with The Fool on it.
The symbolism stopped me.
In Tarot, The Fool represents the beginning of the journey. It is the energy of being unburdened by knowing, open to possibility, full of curiosity and wonder, and willing to step forward without having every answer.
That was almost exactly what I had written in my journal that morning.
I had just surrendered the identity of the spiritual person who knew, and less than twelve hours later, The Fool was waiting for me on the floor.
Coincidence?
I am choosing to receive it as a beautiful reminder that I am supported, even when I do not understand what is happening.
And then, to add even more magic, I was visited by a whale all day.
Maybe that is the lesson.
Maybe I do not need to understand every sign or interpret every experience. Maybe I do not need to know what comes next.
Maybe I can simply be here. Present, curious, open, and humble. Maybe I can be a beginner again.
I know nothing.
And for the first time, that does not feel scary. It feels like freedom.
Maybe this is where the real evolution begins.
